Thomas Hermann
studied flute and singing at the University for Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. He received his performing and teaching diploma with honors and got awarded a prize for excellence from the Austrian government. He was a member of the ORF Choir and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir and worked as a freelance tenor soloist. In 1993 he did his Masterclass Studies at the University of Music Würzburg where he received his diploma for flute in 1996. Since 1994 he was principal flutist with the Niederbayerische Philharmonie and was awarded the title of Chamber Musician in 2008. In 2007 he additionally became head of artistic planning at the Landestheater Niederbayern. In 2014 he became head of the artistic bureau and casting manager for the opera department of Staatstheater Nürnberg. From 2018 until 2020 he worked as orchestra director of the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg with GMD Joana Mallwitz.
Since season 2020/2021 Thomas Hermann is Director of the Opera Department at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
