The solo exhibition Character by scenographer Madis Nurms opens on September 13 at Pärnu Keskuse Galerii (Aida 7), offering an intimate glimpse into the rich and intricate world of PromFest’s stage costumes. This unique exhibition showcases striking costumes from the festival’s international opera productions dating back to 2007.

Usually seen only from afar, these costumes are now within arm’s reach — inviting visitors to explore their construction, materials, and delicate details up close. Alongside the costumes, original sketches reveal the creative process and behind-the-scenes work of character design.
Madis Nurms is a freelance theatre artist whose designs have brought life to productions across Austria, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Since 2007, he has been the lead designer for all PromFest productions. His directorial debut came in 2015 with Verdi’s Aida, followed by Arnold Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire (2018) and Francis Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine (2024).
