Klaudia Taev Competition

The Klaudia Taev Competition for Opera Singers was founded in 1996 by musician and writer Toomas Kuter with the aim of capturing the memory of his teacher, the legendary song teacher of Pärnu, Klaudia Taev. By now, the Competition has grown into a large-scale international event bringing to Pärnu numerous young singers from all over the world.

About PromFest

Festival PromFest was founded in 2005. It grew out of the Klaudia Taev competition, which is still the main event of the festival. All festival events are related to the singers participating in the competition. The festival program includes a new production of one opera, which will be staged for the winners of the competition, as well as concerts, master classes and lectures.

Opera productions

As part of each PromFest, one opera production is staged with the winners of the Klaudia Taev Competition in lead roles. PromFest has already released 12 productions since 2003: Rigoletto, Demon, Carmen, Thais, Attila, The Tsar’s Bride, Aida, La Traviata, I Capuletti e i Montecchi, Il Turco in Italia, and Cendrillon. Francesco Cilea’s opera Adriana Lecouvreur was staged in 2025.

PromFest is not a very typical opera festival as we know them. True, you can see opera performances, listen to concerts and much more that festival programs always offer. What makes PromFest unique is the fact that the main part of the festival is the singers’ competition and its winners have the right to decide which opera will be performed at the next festival.
Everyone who is young or feel young – come and enjoy the youthful energy, because PromFest is created for a young audience with young singers!
