› Participation

The competition is opened to singers of all nationalities, born after January 1st, 1978.
The application deadline is April 8th, 2011.

The Competition will be held in four rounds:

1. In the first round all the applicants registered on time will participate by their audo-recodings (CD or .mp3):

• at least 2 pieces in different characters by free choice of applicant should be on the recording
• the title of works and the date of the recording must be stated
• the selected to the next round contestants will be informed before April 18th by e-mail only
• the selected contestants have to send a confirmation about their further participating before May 8th.

The lenght of the recording should be 8 minutes as minimum.

2. In the second round at least 30 chosen contestants will participate. They will perform with accompanist:

• one 18th century aria (from Bach to Mozart inclusive) chosen by the contestant. The piece should not overlap with pieces designated for the third and the final rounds
• one lied, classical romance or folksong chosen by the contestant

Two pieces should not be longer than 9 minutes all together.

3. In the third round maximum 15 contestants will take part. They will perform with accompanist:

• two verses of F. Schubert's "Ave Maria" as the compulsory song. Transposition for the best key is allowed if needed
• one aria or selection from any opera, oratorio, cantata or orchestral work from the 20th century (begin from 30-ties)
• one operatic scene, to include recitative and aria. This work and works designated for the second and the final rounds should not overlap each other

These three compositions should not exceed 18 minutes altogether.

4. For the final round a maximum of 6 contestants will be chosen. They will perform with an orchestra:

two works from the repertoire list:

• one piece chosen by the contestant,
• one work selected by the Jury out of the 3 options previously presented by the contestant.
The work will be announced to each finalist after the third round.

The contestant will be allowed a 25-minute rehearsal with the orchestra before the final.

The Jury may interrupt the contestant’s performance at any stage and ask them to finish before their time is over, also to make any other decisions for the competition's well functioning. The Jury's decision will be final.

The contestant's repertoire must be performed by heart. Once chosen pieces can't be changed later.

› Additional conditions

The accommodation and traveling expenses for participants and their parties will be covered by themselves. However the Competition will offer the list of hotels/hostels/guesthouses in Pärnu with special price (Competition's deal) for those participants who will be selected to the 2nd round.


Contestants are responsible for obtaining their own visas to enter Estonia.

It is highly recommended that contestants provide their own insurance with adequate coverage. The Organizing Committee will not accept any responsibility for accidents occurring to contestants during the competition.

An accompanist free of charge is offered in case participants cannot perform with their own accompanist. Participants must take all music needed with them.

All the contestants choosen into the second round have to be on time at the right place (announced before) on June 8st 2011. The order for the second round will be raffled in alphabetical order (first name will be chosen randomly).

All rounds of the competition, except the 1st round, will be open to the public and may be recorded and broadcast by radio or television. Contestants have no monetary claims on interviews, recordings and/or broadcastings.

› Important to know


If the contestant willfully or in any other way doesn't follow the regulations of the competition, then he/she would be disqualified.

The registration fee is not refundable.

The organizers will guarantee that the audio-recordings will not be used any other purposes than for the selection of candidates into second round.

› Awards

The Jury will give three awards:
   € 6000 - First Prize and Grand Prix
   € 4500 - Second Prize
   € 3000 - Third Prize

The Jury may give out additional prizes.
The Jury reserves the right to divide prizes, except the First Prize. In this case Jury will add the monetary value of prizes together and reconsider the amount of awards. If there is no finalist, that deserves any particular prize (as well the First Prize), then the place may remain vacant.
The Awards' Ceremony will be held following the finals on June 12th 2011.

In addition to monetary awards the prize winners of the competition:
-
will be asked to be in the cast of the opera production staged before the 7th Klaudia Taev Competition in 2013
-
will be offered to perform with the 21st Century Orchestra on the concert during year 2012
- may be engaged by Estonian National Opera
