In the name of diversity the organizers of PromFest have added smaller, more intimate concerts to large galas and opera performances of the festival.
Last festival, audiences had the opportunity to listen to the soloconcerts of Barbara Hendricks and Russian bass Yevgeny Nesterenko. In 2009 one of the best known Lithuanian opera singers - Vladimiras Prudnikovas - will perform.
PromFest on mitmekesisuse huvides lisanud suurte galakontserdite ja ooperietenduste kõrval festivali kavva ka kammerlikke kontserte. Eelmisel aastal oli publikul võimalus osa saada tippsoprani Barbara Hendricksi ja ühe silmapaistvaima vene bassi Jevgeni Nesterenko soolokontsertidest, sel aastal esineb üks tuntumaid Leedu ooperisoliste Vladimiras Prudnikovas.
Vladimiras Prudnikovas is one of the most famous Lithuanian basses, a laureate of the International M. Callas Competition in Athens (1981) and a professor of the Lithuanian Academy of Music. In 1979, he graduated from the Lithuanian State Conservatoire (now Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre) and started his singer’s career at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Prudnikovas is the main performer of bass parts in operas and large concert format opuses in Lithuania. He has been constantly invited to perform in theatres and concert halls of Europe, USA and Japan. The singer often tours France, Italy, Spain and England; he has performed in Germany, Finland, Norway, Holland and other countries, participated in international music festivals including Echternach in Luxemburg, Rossini in Wildbad and Berliner Festwochen in Germany, Castell de Perlada and Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in Spain, International Festival and Events in USA, Prague Spring in Czech Republic, Verdi Festival in Italy (1992), Opera Festival in Savonlinna, Finland (1993) etc.
The singer gained international acclaim after performing the part of Boris in Musorgski’s opera in the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre, New York City Opera, Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, as well as in Japan and Italy. “The part of Boris sung by Vladimiras Prudnikovas doubtlessly amounts to the legendary Petrov-Christoff-Ghiaurov trinity …”, wrote Nouvelle Republique in 1991.
The repertoire of Vladimiras Prudnikovas is particularly rich. During the three decades of his career he performed more than 30 opera parts including Mephistopheles (Faust by Ch. Gounod), Hermann (Tannhäuser by R. Wagner), Daland (The Flying Dutchman by R. Wagner), Boris Godunov and Pimen (Boris Godunov by M. Musorgski), Konchak (Knight Igor by A. Borodin), Timur (Turandot by G. Puccini), Sparafucile (Rigoletto by G. Verdi) etc. His repertoire of chamber music, mass and oratories is also remarkable.
In Lithuania and abroad, the soloist often performs under the baton of famous conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin, Justus Franz, Cyril Diederich, Vladimir Spivakov, Dmitrij Kitajenko, Vladimir Fedosejev, Jonas Aleksa, Saulius Sondeckis, Juozas Domarkas and Gintaras Rinkevičius. During concerts of chamber music the soloist is usually accompanied by his constant partner the pianist Nijolė Ralytė.
V.Prudnikovas is a teacher, professor of the Lithuanian Academy of Music, Head of Singing Department (since 1992), inspirer, organiser and member of juries of many Lithuanian musical events and vocal competitions.
